Urban venue for a variety of Sports

The Nyíregyháza Athletics Centre is one of the most modern stadiums in Hungary. CONICA systems were used to fit out its large athletics track as well as other tracks and peripheral areas both inside and outside.
The name says it all: the Nyíregyháza Athletics Centre is the central venue for sports enthusiasts here in eastern Hungary. With 120,000 inhabitants, Nyíregyháza is the seventh-largest city in the country and home to many ambitious sports clubs. To provide them with adequate training and competition facilities, the old sports centre was demolished and completely rebuilt between 2019 and 2021. The hall is one of the largest and most modern in Hungary. It also has spacious outdoor areas. The facility is suitable not only for national and international sporting events, but also for cultural and leisure activities such as exhibitions, conferences and concerts.
At the request of the city, architecture firm B5 Építészstúdió Kft.(Sport Tracks’ contractor Global Sport Kft.) and consultant László Erdei took on the project’s planning and implementation. For flooring, the team relied heavily on CONICA products for both the athletics tracks and the periphery.
The athletics track
The athletics track has an area of 7,860 m2 and is fitted out with CONIPUR SW in the colours RAL 3016 and 3017. The seamless dual-layer solution with a full PUR surface layer is highly resilient and ensures optimum adhesion. It also provides a force reduction of 37%. The base layer contains recycled materials, which makes the covering both cost-effective and extremely sustainable. Furthermore, the two-toned top layer can be renewed using the Retop method to extend the service life even further. The athletics track has already received World Athletics Class 2 certification.
The jogging track
For the 921 m2 of the jogging track, the builders chose CONIPUR EPDM in the colour RAL 3016. The surface is exclusively made up of virgin materials and is characterised by the highest level of quality and durability. The single-layer composition allows for quick, cost-effective installation. Even after a heavy downpour, the surface dries quickly and is again ready for use.
The indoor areas
CONIPUR MX+ in the colours RAL 3016 and 3017 was used for the indoor athletics track, the players’ exit and the warm-up aisle – a total area covering over 4,000 m2. The 15 mm-thick polyurethane athletics track system with a foamed middle layer is very cost-efficient thanks to the recycled infill granules in the sub-layers. However, this does not mean that the user must compromise on quality and durability. The indoor athletics track has already received World Athletics Indoor certification.
Record numbers already achieved in construction
Global Sport Kft. roughly estimates the order volume was six times that of an average project. Nevertheless, the schedule was very tight. Even in wintry temperatures, work had to be carried out as far as the materials allowed. The reinforced concrete work counted as one of several particularly tall challenges. The components had to be manufactured so precisely that the coverings could be installed without levelling the surfaces any further. Other technical highlights were involved in the project, such as an innovative drainage system. Thanks to these high-quality installations, the sport-loving citizens of Nyíregyháza can now enjoy one of the most modern stadiums in Hungary.
