Conica AG goes by rail
10. May 2023
CO2 savings were at 97.6 per cent in 2022 compared to transport by truck
Conica AG from Schaffhausen, one of the world’s market leaders in the manufacture of sports flooring, was able to avoid around 413 truck journeys in 2022 by using rail transport with SBB Cargo Schweiz. This saved 36.66 tons of CO2 emissions. This corresponds to a saving of 97.62 % compared to transport by truck. Since carbon dioxide is mainly responsible for the greenhouse effect, Conica AG was able to make an important contribution to protecting the environment and combating climate change by doing this.
The primary energy consumption of diesel was reduced by around 11,894 liters, which corresponds to a saving of 71.66 % compared to transport by truck. For nitrogen oxides, the saving was 46.33 kg. That’s 96.26 % less than by truck. Nitrogen oxides are mainly responsible for the irritation and damage to the respiratory organs through ozone formation in the lower layers of the atmosphere.
For non-methane hydrocarbons, 12.73 kg was saved (a reduction of 97.2 % compared to the truck). Non-methane hydrocarbons, in combination with nitrogen oxides, contribute to lower ozone and smog formation.
The saving in particulate matter was 2.66 kg, which represents an improved value of 77.43 % compared to truck. Fine dust contains soot particles of various sizes and poses a cancer risk to humans. Fine dust also contributes to smog formation.
And last but not least, 36.17 kg of sulfur dioxides were also saved (91.21 % less than by truck).
