CONICA Partners with European Athletics to Help Athletes Excel
24. August 2023
One year after Swiss sports flooring company CONICA signed a 4-year agreement with European Athletics, a series of standout performances are being celebrated among young athletes following the organization’s U20 championship event in Jerusalem.
CONICA has been a leader in the manufacturing of sports and leisure flooring for more than 40 years. In 2022, the company retopped an 8,300-square-metres running track system at the Givat Ram Stadium with CONICA’s CONIPUR SW product. The location was recently the venue for athletes who competed in the 4-day Jerusalem 2023 European Athletics U20 Championships held in early August.
The CONIPUR SW track is used in sports facilities and multipurpose fields that experience high demand. The track system features a sandwich system, which makes the track durable and resilient. CONICA received the World Athletics Certification for the track and has installed the system in locations worldwide.
The recent competition in Jerusalem resulted in two championship records, one individual best, five world U20 leaders, 13 European U20 leaders and 59 national records.
“We are so thrilled to be part of such a momentous occasion. The achievements of so many young athletes at the Jerusalem 2023 European Athletics U20 Championships is why we do what we do,” said Chirag Shah, CEO of CONICA. “We know how important it is for them to be able to perform their best, that’s why we strive to put the very best in place to give them the most reliable foundation for success.”
During the competition, Latvia’s Agate Caune beat the championship record with 15:03.85 in the women’s 5000m. It was her personal best time as she became the third athlete ever to win the 3000m and 5000m in the competition. Italy’s Mattia Furlani earned gold during the competition in the men’s long jump final with an impressive 8.23m, beating the previous record of 8.17m set in 1987. Other notable wins include the decathlon pole vault event with Germany’s Amadeus Graber winning gold, Austria’s Matthias Lasch taking silver and Switzerland’s Andrin Huber with bronze.
European Athletics praised the CONICA surface while reporting that many of the runners in the competition achieved personal bests and set new national records in sprints, relays and other events.
The agreement between European Athletics and CONICA extends through 2026 and awards CONICA as the preferred supplier of “tracks and sport flooring” for European Athletic locations and events including European Athletics Championships, European Athletics Indoor Championships, European Athletics Team Championships and European Athletics U18/U20/U23 Championships.
“We are delighted to be able to continue our commitment to quality throughout the next several years as we build a strong relationship with European Athletics, which has been so instrumental in providing guidance and opportunity for so many athletes to excel,” Shah said. “We are honored to be part of that mission.”
