4 Annual World Bests and even more Records on our CONIPUR Vmax!
16. August 2022
Before the Diamond League finals in Zurich on September 7th and 8th , the athletes will be competing for the last tickets to the finals in three preliminary events in Monaco, Brussels and Lausanne. The competition in Monaco took place on August 10th in Stade Louis II, the center for competitive sports in the Principality. Great results were achieved at the hard-fought Herculis meeting, partially due to the CONIPUR Vmax surface. Four new annual world bests as well as a wave of meeting records, seasonal and personal bests were broken during this competition.
At this year’s Herculis Meeting, the athletes showed top performances. In four disciplines even new annual world bests were set for instance by Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (JAM) in the 100m race with only 10.62 seconds! She even beat her previous time at the World Championships in Eugene (Oregon, USA) by 5 hundredths of a second.
Faith Kipyegon (KEN) set a new world and national record for the year with a time of 3:51.07 in the 1500m, running the second fastest 1500m in history. Heather Maclean (USA) and Elise Cranny (USA) – second and third – also both ran their new best times.
Thierry Ndikumwenayo (BDI) impressed us, taking a remarkable victory in the men’s 3000m race. With a time of 7:25.93, he did not only break the national and Diamond League records, but also set a new world best for the year!
World 1500m champion and Commonwealth Games winner Jake Wightman (GBR) won the 1000m race in 2:13.88, setting both a new meet record and a world best for the year. Marco Arop came second with a new national record for Canada in 2:14.35. The USA champions took up all the podium in the men’s 200m dash, with Noah Lyles again improving the meet record he set in 19.46 seconds for the 200m.
In the women’s 400m hurdles, Rushell Clayton (JAM) secured the win by beating her best time by 0.30 seconds. Meanwhile In the men’s 110m hurdles, world champion and Olympic silver medalist Grant Holloway (USA) set a personal season’s best in 12.99 seconds.
Many other disciplines saw excellent results being achieved, Nina Kennedy (AUS), who now has her sight set on the Diamond Trophy thanks to her pole vault victory with 4.66m. This victory would be the icing on the cake for her after such a fantastic season .
Monaco’s sports gem
It is good to remember that, Joshua Cheptegei from Uganda proved just how good it is to run on CONIPUR Vmax in Monaco’s Stadion Louis II shortly after the stadium opened in February 2020, when he broke the world record over the distance of 5000 m, which had stood for 16 years, with a time of 12:35.36.
Stadium Louis II is a sports gem located near the Fontvieille marina. At the end of the 1960s, Prince Rainier III took on the challenge to add 22-hectare to the Principality’s territory by taking all this land on the sea. This entire new area allowed to built the stadium, home of the football club ASMonaco, but also everything that the new space can offer for an impeccable quality of life: Apartments, shops & hotels, schools and even an heliport. Many cultural events are housed on this part of the principality, including the famous International Circus Festival which will celebreate its 45th birthday in January next year. The stadium is perfectly integrated into the architecture of the densely built-up neighborhood and, despite the limited space available offers an infrastructure that leaves nothing to be desired.
The stadium serves several purposes. It is is open to local schools and covers all popular sports, but it also matches the latest international requirements so that the Principality s can host competitions at the highest international level. The annual highlight being the Herculis, a legendary track and field event that has been part of the newly created Diamond League since 2010.
CONIPUR VMAX – the surface for top athletic performance
The running track was renewed in 2020. The architects at ARCH Monaco chose our CONIPUR Vmax. The full pur track for top athletic performance was developed in close cooperation with the Cologne Sports University, meets the requirements of EN 14877, DIN V 18035-6, ASTM F2157-02 as well as those of World Athletics, and has the World Athletics product certificate.
CONIPUR Vmax offers top running performance through the combination of an energy-recovering base layer and a strength-stabilizing top layer. The top layer ensures fast and precise forward motion. The lower energy consumption in the start, sprint and run phases enables maximum running performance all the way to the finish line. The air cells entrapped in a special manner in the base layer returns the energy induced by the athlete after compression. The system features an excellent stability with low deformation. This reduces the load on the joints and provides greater stability. The top layer is also highly durable, giving it maximum resistance and toughness.
